People who don't win create controversy: Raveena on Akshay's National award debate

The actress has herself won the prestigious award in the past for her role in Daman: A Victim of Marital Violence'.

Mumbai: When a reputed awards function did not recognise Akshay Kumar’s performance in ‘Airlift’, people got upset. And now that he has won, that too the prestigious National Award, they say it was all because of his friendship with the Chairman of the National Awards committee Priyadarshan. But Raveena Tandon is unfazed by what others think and fully supports her ‘Mohra’ co-star.

While chatting with a website about her comeback revenge drama ‘Maatr’, Raveena was asked about her opinion on the ongoing controversy and if National Awards is losing its credibility, to which the versatile actress replied. “I don’t think so, why should it lose its dignity, every year there is a controversy. People who don’t win create the controversy.”

Right after the announcement was made, social media users started accusing both Priyadarshan and Akshay of foul play. Upon learning about the loud whispers, the director did not mince his words either. He was quoted as saying, “"I have heard of all that and I will answer it in a simple way. When Ramesh Sippy was jury head, Amitabh Bachchan won. When Prakash Jha was head of jury, Ajay Devgn won. So none questioned at that time. So why all these questions are cropping up today.”

Raveena’s comeback film ‘Maatr’ is slated to release on April 21 and is about the menacing subjects of rape and molestation.
