Can’t run around trees anymore: Sanjay Dutt

Sanjay Dutt chats about his Marathi production, his choice of roles and wife Maanayata.

Sanjay Dutt and his wife Maanayata have forayed into Marathi cinema, and are now producing their first regional film under Sanjay Dutt Productions, which is titled Baba. At the trailer launch for the film, Sanjay said he was happy to be associated with the project. “I am a Marathi maanus born and bred here in Mumbai, so it feels great that through my production house, I am foraying into Marathi filmmaking,” he said. “Of course we are here to make good content-driven films. But along with making meaningful films, we will also make commercial and entertaining films,” he continued, adding, “If any good role is brought to me by any directors, especially for Marathi films, I would readily love to participate in them.”

The actor was also bursting with praise for his wife, “She is my pillar of strength, both in personal and professional life. I had just heard a little bit of the subject of the film, and the title Baba itself allured me the most. We were quick to agree on producing this film. However, Maanayata is the one who is taking care of the production. We have a strong team as well.”

When further asked about his love for the film’s title, the actor said that it is a word that everyone knows. “We all know this word Baba [father]; it is very important in our lives. It carries a huge value in our life. I found this title very intriguing and so we immediately zeroed in on this title.” Does this mean that Sanjay will now choose roles keeping his age in mind? The actor responded with laughter.

“What do you mean ‘umar ke hisab se? [According to age]’ I am fully aware of the fact that at this age, I cannot run around trees with heroines. I am, and will choose roles that will suit my age,” he concluded.
