Kamasutra director Rupesh Paul’s film The Trap is eerily similar to the recently release Rajkummar Rao starrer, Trapped. The filmmaker, who was to give the movie a commercial release at a later date, was forced to release his film on the Internet on Friday — the same day as Trapped — thanks to these similarities. He maintains however, that he wasn’t aware of them when he started out on the film. “After the trailer of Trapped came out, many of my fraternity friends, who had watched my movie, The Trap were shocked. There were similarities in the script and even some shots, they said. I ignored it initially, but then I wondered what would happen to my film if Trapped reaches the audience first. Why would people watch another movie if the stories are similar? This question scared me,” Rupesh said.
“The immediate and best option was to show it online to at least prove my side. That’s why we have decided for an online premiere today on Vimeo. We will find out another digital VOD to keep the movie permanently to watch after this week,” he added.
