India’s first Netflix show, Sacred Games, starring Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte in the lead roles has come under intense scrutiny for using bad language and for also speaking against the government.
In a recent interview, Saif said, “If you date someone from the wrong caste, you will be killed in some parts of India. That’s just the way it is, I don’t know how much you can criticise your government in India, someone might kill you.”
The star has been trolled for playing a turbaned Sikh in the series. One tweet read, “I refuse to watch Sacred Games on Netflix. Can’t believe they cast Saif Ali Khan as a turbaned Sikh, when any number of great Sikh actors or Scarlett Johansson could have been given that role.”
However, many came forward to show their support to Saif on Twitter. One such tweet by Dinesh Krishna@dkrishna1208 said, “I have newfound respect for #SaifAliKhan after #SacredGames the finale just WOW! (sic)”
Another Twitter handle, ujjawal goel @ujjwal1743 tweeted, “#SacredGames one of the best shows in Indian TV, thanks Netflix and #SaifAliKhan, on top of my recommendation list. People who say we don’t have shows like west have…please watch this, your opinions will change (sic).”
