The Puri legacy continues
Ahead of his debut, Amrish Puri’s grandson Vardhaan Puri explains why he rooted for the bad guy. Actor Vardhaan Puri’s grandfather is the mighty Amrish Puri, and that’s one hell of a responsibility to carry. “I was lucky to have daadu with me for 15 years of my life. We used to stay together and I was in the room next to his. Not a night passed when I didn’t go to sleep between my daadu and dadi.”
And while the acting bug has bitten Vardhaan, his father Rajiv did not want to pursue it. Says Vardhan, “My dad wanted to travel all the over the world, so he joined the Navy. I was an actor from my childhood.” Since his Daadu was known as the arch-villain of Bollywood, Vardhaan grew up cheering for the bad guy. “I’d watch Daadu being mean and I’d feel happy. When he got killed in the films, I’d get very angry,” he recalls. Now in his debut film Yeh Saali Ashiqui, which opens on November 22.
