Economic crisis, says who?

Rs 1,000 crore was spent in watching movies from August 15 till date.

While everyone is complaining of an economic slowdown in the country, patrons of Bollywood movies have completely rejected that notion. They say Rs 1,000 crore was spent in watching movies from August 15 till date. Films like Mission Mangal, Batla House, Saaho, Chhichhore, Dream Girl, War and others have clocked in the numbers to enable Bollywood achieve a golden period in this time.

“It sounds unbelievable, but patrons are spending money on watching movies,” says Atul Mohan, Editor of Complete Cinema.

Mohan points out that while 2017 recorded a collection of Rs 3,000 crore, 2018 saw Rs 3,500 crore being collected, 2019 seems to be heading towards a record Rs 5,000 crore in collections at the box office – something that was unheard of till date.

One has to understand that traditionally, the period between Diwali and Christmas is when the biggest films release and make a lot of money. Films like Housefull 4, Saand Ki Aankh, Dabangg 3, Made In China, Bala, Good Newwz, Jawaani Jaanemann, Panipat, Marjaavan, Mardaani 2, Dil Bechara and Commando 3 are pending for release in the next 75 days before the year ends.
