I tried hard to get Anushka replaced in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi : Karan Johar

The filmmaker revealed how he couldn't relate to Aditya Chopra and thought he was mad to have cast her.

Mumbai: Karan Johar has revealed an interesting titbit surrounding the making of good friend Aditya Chopra's 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi'.

Turns out KJo was so averse to the idea of Anushka Sharma, the then debutante, being cast as the leading lady opposite Shah Rukh Khan that he thought Aditya Chopra has lost his mind.

"I asked Adi not to cast her. When he showed me her photographs, I was like, ‘Are you mad? What are you thinking?’ I would look at her and think what really did he see in her," confessed Karan, in an interview.

Karan, who's directed Anushka along with Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Fawad Khan in his upcoming directorial, 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil,' further added, "On the first day of shoot, she was in a bridal costume walking in with Shah Rukh, and my mother was like she looks so lost. I was thinking to myself I’ll have to be nice to her now. Poor think she doesn’t know she won’t be left with a career out of this.”

Anushka, who had then been unaware of the incident, reminisced, “I went back and told my mom he’s so nice.”

At this juncture, KJo quipped, “Little did she know… this devious, scheming mind… I was trying for another actress for that part.”

But then, the ace director, who starred alongside his protagonists in Anurag Kashyap's 'Bombay Velvet,' said, “I watched Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and she was good in it. But what really blew my mind was her performance in Band Baaja Baaraat.”

'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil,' is all set to clash with Ajay Devgn's self-starring directorial 'Shivaay,' on October 28, at the Diwali box-office.
