Shabana Azmi never ceases to surprise. On the eve of her 66th birthday, she recorded two songs for Aparna Sen’s next film Sonata. After the songs were recorded on Monday, Shabana breathed a sigh of relief when it turned out well.
“I don’t consider myself a singer at all. Normally I wouldn’t dare take my singing skills beyond the bathroom. But friends seem to think I can pull off a tune. I’ve done it earlier for Muzaffar Ali in Anjuman and for Shyam Benegal in Mandi. But this was a bigger challenge. This is Rabindra Sangeet and you can’t afford to slip up,” says the legendary actress.
Azmi had been training for the songs for two weeks now. She is currently shooting for Aparna Sen’s Sonata and for a serial Amma simultaneously.
