'Talent always excels, we should focus on our work wholeheartedly'

Vijay Varma, a Hyderabad boy, is doing well in the Hindi film industry — has made a mark on OTT with all his shows thus far. In Lust Story, Darlings and Dahaad he played a negative character but in his latest show Kaalkoot he plays a cop. The web series also stars Shweta Tripathi Sharma and will premiere on a digital platform on July 27.

Excerpts form an interview:

How does it feel, having tasted success with all your OTT releases?

Great. My next, Kaalkoot is set to premiere on on 27 July, glimpses of it have been appreciated. This is an exciting time for me, must confess it’s the peak performance time for me.

I feel very content and happy. With each new project there is a new kind of excitement. It’s like what next? Every project that we do until it is completed we just work hard and try to bring our best. Until the last phase of our project which is publicity that I’m doing right now, I not only feel nervous but excited and anxious. It’s the same feelings which you get before getting the result of any examinations.

Expectations rise for Kaalkoot now, what is it about?

In Kaalkoot this boy is not responding to the photo of a girl that has been sent him to get a response for the proposal. Since he is not responding his parents are telling him to return the photo. They try to figure out what exactly is his decision.

Finally, my fans say, ‘we are getting to see a good boy in Vijay’.
Doing varied roles makes me feel great and my audiences are also happy to watch me in them. Filmmakers too are casting me in different roles, and that’s great to see.

How was your experience working with Sonakshi in Dahaad?

It was great. She has no tantrums, readily extends a friendly hand, and is an easy person. The work environment was fun and to the best of our craft.

All outsiders are doing well in the industry. What’s your take on the Insider vs Outsider debate?

I can just say that excellent talent always excels. We should focus on our work wholeheartedly. It may take time but later or sooner it gets recognition and its due. You can catch up in the race slowly and steadily.
Outsiders should be ready to be tested. It may take time so you should have patience, but pursue your dreams. It will serve you in times ahead.

My association with Deccan Chronicle

* DC is a huge publication down south. When I would do stage shows, advertisements were published in DC. I worked in Sutradhar theatre company. I have those advertisements saved with me.

* I became aware of my city Hyderabad and cultural hang outs, as DC would extensively cover college festivals. It had party pages, nightlife and more. This was one paper that made citizens familiar with the city.

* I call upon all my fans especially from Hyderabad to watch Kaalkoot as this boy from Hyderabad turns a good boy in this show for the first time!
