Baaghi 2 makers charged with copyright infringement for their song Mundiya
Mumbai: Writer-lyricist Charanjit Singh Maakar, known in Punjabi folk circles as Channi Khannewala, collaborated with the late singer Labh Janjua on the song ‘Mundiyan To Bach Ke Rahin’ in 1996.
The song became a rage back then and has been remade for Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani starrer ‘Baaghi 2’ as well.
But surprisingly the makers had not bought the rights of the song from Channi, and in fact Channi got to know that the song exists when he saw it on TV.
“I was home in Punjab and saw a Hindi version of our song, ‘Mundiyan,’ playing on TV. The words of the first two lines and the last stanza had been changed but it was still our song,” Channi told Mumbai Mirror.
Channi further went on to claim that neither Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment nor the director or cast receive his calls, which is why he had to send a notice 10 days later.
“The noticees deliberately deprived me of my royalty. It is not only cheating, but also disrespecting a legend like Labh,” Channi said angrily.
The makers recently released a new song ‘Lo Safar’ which shows Tiger and Disha’s college romance.
