Amitabh Bachchan's close escape from fire at Make in India event

The actor was reciting a poem on stage and soon after his performance, a massive fire broke out at the event.

Mumbai: During a cultural event at the Make in India weekend, a huge fire broke out. The event was packed with who’s who of Bollywood, Chief Minister and the Governor along with the massive crowd.

The fire that broke out at around 8.22 pm was brought under control, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told reporters. “No casualties reported, no one is injured,” he said.

The massive fire broke out minutes after Amitabh Bachchan’s performance. The blaze was brought under control in quick time by 14 fire engines and 10 water tankers with swift evacuation of thousands of people.

The actor was reciting a poem on stage and soon after he finished his performance, the actor jumped inside his car to get back home. Minutes after, the fire broke out at the event.

The actor didn't realize what had happened till the time he started getting calls from people, asking him about his safety and whereabouts.

“I wait for my cue .. deliver my performance on stage .. walk off it .. and get into my car to leave .. production wants me to come back and to meet the Chief Minister .. I ask to be excused .. it would be breach of protocol, from my side .. I would meet up with him later .. and leave ..

An sms comes to me soon after .. “are you safe” ?

I am puzzled .. I respond with a yes but why .. and then come to know of the fire that had immediately after my departure from the stage burst in and has engulfed the entire surrounding .. the stage is gutted, it was massive in size .. and anxious calls begin to come in, from all those that were seeing the programme on Tv .. live ..

It is providential ..

Thank you all that have enquired from me of my well being and for all the prayers ..

Providence .. a word we often use .. but never seem to understand it completely .. where does it come from and why .. God’s grace is often the reason of its manufacture .. but it can be gracious to one and not the other, so that creates a dichotomy .. needs debate ..

Pictures shall follow .. but what I need is to rest ..” - Amitabh Bachchan wrote on his blog after the fire incident.

Another Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, who was at the event, expressed his concern on Twitter.
