Raj Kapoor’s daughter no more

Nanda rose to fame for selling 17,000 pension policies in a single day that led to her mention in the Guinness Book of Records.

Seventy-one-year-old Ritu Nanda, the daughter of Bollywood’s showman Raj Kapoor, passed away at early hours on Tuesday in New Delhi after a long battle with cancer. Sister of Rishi, Randhir, Rajiv, and Rima Kapoor, Ritu was married to Rajan Nanda and is survived by son Nikhil and daughter Natasha Nanda. Nanda rose to fame for selling 17,000 pension policies in a single day that led to her mention in the Guinness Book of Records. She also managed companies like Escolife and Rimari Corporate art services.

Amitabh Bachchan, whose daughter Shweta Bachchan is married to Nikhil, took to his blog and wrote, “My ‘samdhan’ Ritu Nanda, Shweta’s Mother in Law passed away suddenly at 1.15 Am .. cannot communicate .. travelling (sic).” Senior Bachchan along with daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan were spotted at the Mumbai airport clad in white attires on their way to Delhi early in the morning.

Nanda’s sister-in-law Neetu Kapoor took to Instagram, sharing an emotional note along with a picture of the two. “My dearest, may your soul rest in peace.” Neetu and Rishi Kapoor’s daughter Riddhima Kapoor Sahni too expressed her grief on social media. “To the kindest most gentle person I’ve ever met — They don’t make them like you anymore — RIP bua #missyoualways (sic),” Riddhima wrote.
