Deepika Padukone out, Anushka Sharma in
Anushka Sharma’s wait for something special to come her way has finally paid off, with her being chosen as the heroine of the remake of the Hollywood film Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.
“The film was to earlier be a remake of Satte Pe Satta, but the issues of the rights were not working out. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is a Hollywood film from 1954, and since the film is over 60-years-old, the copyright of the film is now in public domain and hence can be remade without acquiring the rights,” says a trade source.
Anushka, who has not signed anything since her last release Zero, will be signing the dotted line as soon as the commercial formalities are in place. Deepika Padukone was previously being considered because she is also a South Indian like Hema Malini, who had played the heroine in Satte Pe Satta. But with the remake of the film gravitating towards the Hollywood cult classic, the characters have been redefined.
Farah Khan is directing the film, and Hrithik Roshan is being considered to spearhead the cast. However, “Roshan Jr. has still not signed on the dotted line, and we hope to get an announcement at the earliest,” adds the source.
Rohit Shetty and Reliance Entertainment are the producers of the film.
