Mumbai: Sajid Khan has turned out to be one of the biggest casualties of the #MeToo movement in the country. The filmmaker had stepped down from his directorial post of ‘Housefull 4’ as multiple women, including actresses Saloni Chopra, Rachel White, a journalist, among others, have accused him of sexual and other forms of harassment.
As accusations against him started piling on Friday, his family members, sister Farah Khan and cousin Farhan Akhtar had expressed shock to know about his misconduct and were concerned about how he would ‘atone’ for his actions.
‘Aisha’ and ‘Kai Po Che’ fame Amrita Puri is the latest actress to open up about Sajid and said it was a well-known fact that he is ‘creep’ and that she was advised to stay as far away from him as possible. She also ‘refused to believe’ that people from the industry or his family members were surprised about the allegations.
It was fairly well known that @SimplySajidK is a creep and is completely inappropriate as far as his conduct with women goes. I was warned to stay away from him if I ever came across him. I refuse to believe that it has come as a surprise to ppl from the industry or his family.— Amrita Puri (@_Amrita_Puri) October 12, 2018
Farhan wasn’t too pleased with her tweet and said he ‘deeply resents’ her ‘insinuation’ that he or his family were aware about his behaviour and did nothing. He concluded by saying that ‘your anger is justified’ but not ‘your conspiracy theories.’
Amrita replied by saying her tweet was not directed to him, and she asked if he was indeed related to Sajid and apologised for generalising.
My tweet was not directed to you. Are you related? Pardon my ignorance. Also it’s not fair to generalise as I did. My apologies. However @SimplySajidK’s misconducts were fairly well known. I’m surprised that it’s come as a shock.— Amrita Puri (@_Amrita_Puri) October 13, 2018
We’re not sure if that was indeed the truth, but even Farhan’s rumoured girlfriend Shibani Dandekar stood up for the multi-talented celebrity.
She stressed Farhan ‘DIDNT’ know about it and spoke up the moment he knew and also expressed annoyance about ‘blaming and shaming’ family members instead of ‘holding the culprit responsible.’
Instead of holding the culprit responsible for gross misconduct are we really blaming and shaming family members for not knowing???? really??— shibani dandekar (@shibanidandekar) October 13, 2018
I’m speaking about one particular person who has been accused of knowing and HE DIDNT!!! https://t.co/J7j1CJWWXh— shibani dandekar (@shibanidandekar) October 13, 2018
turns a blind eye?? wow that’s hell of an accusation.. HE DIDNT KNOW plain and simple .. had no clue... the second he heard he spoke up.. that is his truth no matter how much we discuss it, it won’t change https://t.co/gHvCUIqwMV— shibani dandekar (@shibanidandekar) October 13, 2018
He can’t be held accountable for something he didn’t do or know of .. we need to focus on the girls and stop with the blame https://t.co/IijmjxMI3O— shibani dandekar (@shibanidandekar) October 13, 2018
I do not support dragging innocent people through this .. focus on the ones who should be held accountable https://t.co/0wJpdPaqhj— shibani dandekar (@shibanidandekar) October 14, 2018
so does that mean I support the behaviour of the culprit?? absolutely not .. it is horrific! don’t paint everyone with the same brush is what i’m saying .. leave the innocent and focus on the guilty https://t.co/SXOI4T39Eh— shibani dandekar (@shibanidandekar) October 14, 2018
It’s surely getting messy not just for the accused, but also for those even associated with them in any capacity....
