If one recalls the year 2000, some key moments include Lara Dutta, Priyanka Chopra and Dia Mirza make India proud by winning the Miss Universe, Miss World and the Miss Asia Pacific titles respectively. Cut to now, and you see Priyanka is doing a lot more work in Hollywood than in Bollywood and Dia Mirza is pursuing her passion for social work. Meanwhile, Lara Dutta is doing a web series and is still associated with a few causes and her beauty brand.
When Lara was asked why didn’t she accept the role in the Matrix series when she was offered one, while PC latched on to her Hollywood offers, she quipped: “Why do you want me to clone her? Why do you want two girls to tread the same path? Then what will be special about us? Every girl has her own set of dreams and own set of priorities. If you follow us on social media (Lara, Priyanka, and Dia) I shared a throwback picture from 2000 and today a few weeks ago. All of us are in different phases of our lives and we are very happy.”
Further, when asked about why Indians are not often seen at the very top, the actress spoke her mind freely, saying: “I think as a country, we have lost perspective. We had a golden period between 1992 and 2000. I looked up to people like Madhu Sapre and Manpreet Brar in those days as role models. They were not stereotypes. When Madhu was asked what would she do if she won the pageant, she replied that she would change the infrastructure for sports.”
