Aamir calls his dream of becoming an actor a rebellious act'

Aamir Khan chose his dreams over peer pressure and made the rebellious decision of becoming an actor'.

Mumbai: At the launch of one of the songs from ‘Dangal’, Aamir spoke about the importance of parents in nurturing their kid’s dreams. Khan feels that children should not be pressurised to choose a career path they are not interested in or are not passionate about. He believes that a child should have the liberty to follow his dreams.

Talking about his character from his upcoming film ‘Dangal’, which depicts the relationship of a father who wants to realise his dreams through his daughters, the superstar said, “I do not believe in such things. As a father, I always support my kids to do whatever they wish to do. I believe that parents should support their kids to achieve their dreams rather than decide it for them. However, the film is not based on my life!

"Though in the beginning children go through an indecisive phase, instead of pressurising them to pursue their unfulfilled dreams, parents should help them to find a way to decide a career path. I was quite rebellious when I decided to become an actor," added the ‘Taare Zameen Par’ star, who is a father of three children himself.

Aamir is not a stern father and encourages has embraced his children’ individuality.

The film also throws light on the status of women in our society which is changing at a rapid rate. Talking about gender quality, which is the central theme of this film, the actor said, “It is a great change of perception and celebration of gender equality. This year two women won Olympic medals for our country and made us proud! Personally, neither I look at girls and boys differently nor I have grown up seeing such difference in our household. Both my sisters were treated with equality while growing up.”

Director Nitesh Tiwari and Aamir Khan have worked in children-oriented films and the latter feels that this genre has not received the kind of attention it deserves in Bollywood.

"I would be more than happy to see that more filmmakers are doing children's films. The kinds of films kids are watching are not appropriate for them. Since they do not have many options, they are watching them. I wish people were making more family films like ‘Dangal’," said the superstar.

The film will hit the theatre on December 23.
