Actors are never allowed to have self-doubt, says Parineeti Chopra
Mumbai: Although Parineeti Chopra made her debut with a supporting role in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, she received appreciation from critics and also a few awards for being the best debutante. Her second filmParineeti Chopra Ishaqzaade won a National Award. This was followed by Shuddh Desi Romance and Hasee Toh Phasee, both earning her good reviews. However, this streak didn’t last for long and she faced a dip in her career.
The actress reveals what went wrong. Parineeti says, “I have gone right and wrong in my film selection and not a single film that I did made me feel that it would flop. I always thought this film will work but sometimes it goes wrong and that’s the game.” “Some actors are lucky. Whatever they choose, it works and it has happened with me as well. In the beginning, everything worked. But, my process of selecting films has not changed, my realisation of the game has become stronger,” she adds.
The Meri Pyari Bindu actress also reveals that she sat down with the producers to analyse what went wrong with the film. “That’s exactly what you do when a film doesn’t work. Sometimes timing is off. So, you go home, you learn, you come back and that’s how the industry has always been.” While many believe that actors can’t afford to take breaks in the industry, Parineeti has gone on a nine-month break and she says that was the best decision that she has ever taken. “I have taken a break only once and the best thing that could have happened to me was taking that break. I took a nine-month break, lost a lot of weight then signed Bindu and Golmaal. Bindu is one of my biggest satellite hits, and has given me much more love than Ishqzaade has given me,” says the 30-year-old actress.
The actress also believes that actors should never have self- doubts. “As an actor, you are never allowed to have self-doubt because you got to have faith in yourself and in nature. Every actor is offered a set of scripts. You have to choose out of them and you have to go on that journey and it’s okay. There is more pressure from media than the audience. The audience doesn’t give any pressure to the actors. Hits and flops are all part of the game.”
