As soon as the trailer of Thackeray dropped, Amrita Rao who plays the role of Bal Thackeray’s wife Meenatai Thackeray in the film was pleasantly surprised to receive a message from her Main Hoon Na director Farah Khan.
“Very honestly, when something is so true to life, everyone’s reaction is the same. Right from the time the trailer dropped, the expectations are high. People have taken to my look. In fact, the first person to message me was Farah Khan. She mentioned that as Meenatai Thackeray, I was so ‘wow’ and how beautiful I was looking. There are lots of compliments pouring in,” says Amrita.
The Vivah and Ishq Vishq actress has a history or memories with Meenatai.
“My first memory was when I was in school. I remember that the day she passed away and got a day off. It was a very big thing. It was a confusing moment too. We were told that Balasahebji’s wife had passed away and the school decided to call it a day. I don’t know if it stayed in the minds of other classmates, but it did for me. I have grown up around Shivaji Park, the hub of the Shiv Sena. Later her iconic statue was installed which I would pass by every day. And then here I am plying the role. It is surreal,” says Amrita.
