It was tough for Shahid as he was like an outsider on the sets of Padmavati: Deepika
Deepika Padukone has revealed that the actor who found it toughest to work in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati, was Shahid Kapoor. “It’s not easy to work with Sanjay and Shahid was working with him for the first time. It was easier for Ranveer (Singh) and me to work with Sanjay on Padmavati, because we’ve worked with him before, and we’re well aware of his working style, mindset and atmosphere on the sets. We knew what he wanted from us every time,” she says. “I feel it was a bit tough for Shahid, because he was like an outsider on the sets of Padmavati.” The actress has earlier worked with SLB in his magnum opuses Goliyon Ki Raas Leela Ram Leela and Bajirao Mastani, as did Ranveer.
She further added that it’s often difficult for actors to get out of the zone of their characters even when the shoot is over, thanks to the way the director works. “The characters we essay in the films are so intense that it’s not easy to snap out of it. There are some actors who begin to live the character, and are not able to come out of the zone till the time the film is complete. It was not easy for me either to come out of the character of Rani Padmavati because of the emotional content of the film. I always try to switch off from the character after pack up, and begin shooting afresh the next day. It won’t be easy for Shahid, as well as Ranveer, to get out of character so easily,” she asserts.
