When Amitabh was late to work…

Yesteryear star Zeenat Aman has posted an interesting behind-the-scenes story involving her and Amitabh Bachchan, who turned 81 on Wednesday. The actress said she was sharing the story to make up for not having wished the Big B on his
birthday.

Zeenat, who has acted with Amitabh Bachchan in hit films as Don, Pukar and The Great Gambler, did not name the film she talks of in the post, nor does she provide other details like the names of the director and producer, or the year of release, but she says it relates to what is to her knowledge the only time Amitabh was late on the sets.

The actress recalls that on the day in question, she had taken a lift to the sets from the film’s producer, and gone to her make-up room to prepare for the shot, leaving instructions to be called as soon as Amitabh arrived. Much after the scheduled ‘roll’ time, she received a message that the Big B had arrived, and
rushed on to the sets. “I immediately leaped up and made my way downstairs. I had just about stepped foot on set when from across the room the director let loose a torrent of abuse! He was absolutely catatonic, and under the impression that it was I who had held up production,” Zeenat’s post says.

Not being given a chance to explain, the actress, with “tears of indignation” in her
eyes, went back to her make-up room and asked her team to prepare to pack up
and leave. But Amitabh and the producer followed her, and Amitabh tendered a handsome apology, Zeenat says. “Babs, I know it’s my fault. The man is a fool and he’s drunk. Let it go and let’s get to work,” he told her.

Accepting the apology, Zeenat says she did return to the sets and complete the film, but chose never to work with that director again, though he fell at her feet and asked her pardon.
