Actress Vidya Balan is elated at the news that Natkhat, a short film she co-produced, is eligible for Oscars this year. Natkhat, which deals with gender equality and misogyny and stars Vidya, won the top prize at the third edition of the Best of India Short Film Festival (BISFF) 2020, making it eligible for an Oscar nomination.

The Dirty Picture actress took to her Instagram account to share the news and wrote, “In a year that has been turbulent, it feels great to win the first award for our film that leads the way directly to Oscar qualification. This film is incredibly close to me since it gave me a chance to play the dual roles of actor and producer (sic),” her post read.

Directed by Shaan Vyas, the film has been showcased at the 2020 Indian Film Festival of Melbourne and the London Indian Film Festival. Natkhat premiered on YouTube as part of the prestigious ‘We Are One: A Global Film Festival.’
