Anuritta Jha speaks about her role in Shut Up, based on Gurmehar Kaur controversy

The short film, helmed by Ashutosh Pathak, also stars Arjun Radhakrishnan and is currently available on YouTube.

Mumbai: Delhi based 20-year old student Gurmehar Kaur had rose to national prominence after she vocally criticised the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad's (ABVP) brand of violent politics.

The daughter of a Kargil war martyr, had taken the internet by storm, stating that Pakistan hadn't killed her father, but war did.

While she had come in for a lot of flak courtesy her purportedly 'anti-national' statement, a major sect of the social media populace had come in justifying her right to an opinion.

And now, directer Ashutosh Pathak, has released his short film, 'Shut Up,' which tackles the very pertinent issue.

Speaking of her role in the short film, lead actress Anuritta Jha said, " Shut Up speaks of the current state of social media outrage that we live in where people have got the freedom to write and post anything even when they are not aware of an event in depth. A Wifi or internet plan is cheaper then one meal so obviously anyone and everyone has a right to opinion as we are a democratic country. I feel if one wants to put across a point strongly and desire some positive result out of it, it must be planned and executed in a proper way."

The film also stars Arjun Radhakrishnan and is currently available on YouTube.
