All eyes on spies

Akshay Kumar is also set to play a spy in the upcoming film Bell Bottom which is set in the ‘80s.

After a successful release of spy movies and web series, directors and actors are now hunting for similar scripts.

With films like RAW, starring John Abraham, tackling espionage as the main subject and even web series like Bard Of Blood and The Family Man revolving around the central topic of spies, Karan Johar has also joined the spy bandwagon.

The director-producer has now announced a film which is an espionage thriller based on the founder of RAW Rameshwarnath Kao. The film is an adaptation of Nitin A Gokhale’s book R.N. Kao: Gentleman Spymaster.

Akshay Kumar is also set to play a spy in the upcoming film Bell Bottom which is set in the ‘80s.

Rajkumar Gupta, who last worked on Raid, is also planning a film called Ravindra Kaushik: The Black Tiger. The film will be based on the life of RAW agent Ravindra Kaushik who was given the title ‘Black Tiger’ by former home minister SB Chavan even though the Indian government had disowned him.

“Even Salman Khan’s film Ek Tha Tiger and Tiger Zinda Hai, which saw both Salman and Katrina play spies for India and Pakistan respectively, were inspired by the life story of Ravindra Kaushik in some ways. The life of spies is very interesting, and their job is a thankless one as such; they are unsung heroes and hence make for great film material. Therefore, everyone wants to do a film on one spy or the other,” says a trade source.

Previously, films like A Gentleman, Bang Bang, Azaan, Madras Café, Mission Istanbul and even the Meghna Gulzar directed Raazi had touched upon the spy subject.
