#MeToo: Aamir Khan joins team to brainstorm on making industry safer for women

The superstar, who was criticised for being mum' on Tanushree Dutta-Nana Patekar row, has now decided to support the movement.

Mumbai: Aamir Khan and wife Kiran Rao on Wednesday attended a meeting of the Producers’ Guild here to draw guidelines to ensure safe working conditions for women in the entertainment industry.

At the meeting, the superstar, along with other members of the Guild, brainstormed on steps that needed to be planned and implemented to avert sexual and other forms of harassment that women has been subjected to in the past. Aamir reportedly felt the #MeToo movement that’s currently making headlines on social media wasn’t the right tool to deal with the menace as he felt there was a need to come up with a stronger solution.

"Taking a stand without intending to do something is not something which Aamir believes in and that was clearly seen in the meeting with the Guild. He was heard saying that this social media activism isn't something that will take us anywhere but we need to come up with exact remedies. These problems didn't originate on social media, so the solutions will also not come on social media. It's a day-to-day real-life issue," a source shared.

After allegations of sexual harassment against Vikas Bahl, Nana Patekar, Alok Nath, among others, the Producers Guild had earlier decided to set up a committee to deal with the stories of several women.
