Like to do what contemporaries don’t: Ayushmann Khurrana

Speaking about his eclectic taste in films, the actor says that he always goes for quirky films based around a taboo subject.

Ayushmann Khurrana finds that after winning the National Award for Best Actor, he will need to choose films more responsibly.

“It’s a happy responsibility that I have to shoulder now,” the Badhaai Ho actor explains, adding that he doesn’t feel pressured about it. “I never take on the pressure of thinking about receiving awards, my first step is always choosing the right script,” he says.

In fact, Ayushmann feels validated by the award. “I can confidently say that the National Award validates my film choices. We actors are like kids. When we get awards, we feel thrilled and appreciated,” he smiles.

Speaking about his eclectic taste in films, the actor says that he always goes for quirky films based around a taboo subject. “I always like to choose different concepts. These are subjects that I feel comfortable promoting, as it brings something different to the table. I like to take on things that my contemporaries would be uncomfortable in doing. I always wanted to present myself with different stuff, and I am happy I am able to sustain and get such quirky subjects,” he says.

Ayushmann adds that even though his films are different, they are appropriate for all audiences. “When I say different, I mean like the humour from TV shows which is slightly below the belt, that’s what I mean. It can be watched sitting with the family. All the films that I have done are family films. My family and my children, when they grow up and watch my films, will feel proud of my choices,” he explains.

Meanwhile, the 34-year-old is gearing up for Dream Girl, another quirky film in which he plays a man who can speak in a female voice as well. “It is out an out masala commercial film, and the first of its kind in my list,” he says in conclusion.
