Appalled at the cuts suggested by CBFC; will go to the revising committee: Bhandarkar

The Central Board of Film Certification has asked Madhur Bhandarkar to make 14 cuts in Indu Sarkar.

Mumbai: Seems like the days for the much-talked about upcoming movie 'Indu Sarkar', based on the Emergency imposed by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, seems to be getting tougher and tougher. First, the Congress party asks the Central Board of Film Certification for a review before the film comes under the scanner and now, the CBFC itself has asked film’s director Madhur Bhandarkar to chop off 14 scenes from the film.

Not happy with the board’s suggestion, Madhur has decided to approach the revising committee.

“Just got out of #InduSarkar film censor screening. Am appalled at the 14 cuts suggested by the committee. Will go to the revising committee,” Madhur Bhandarkar wrote on his Twitter account.

Ever since its announcement, the film has been falling into one or the other kind of trouble. Earlier, a letter was addressed to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chief Pahlaj Nihalani by Nirupam where he had shared his concern over the portrayal of party veterans like Indira Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi and other senior leaders of Indian National Congress in the film.

Reacting over it, Madhur Bhandarkar firmly stood his ground and said that he will not show the film to Congress or any political party till the CBFC hasn’t passed the film.

"There is no question of showing the film to Congress or any political party, till the time the censor hasn't passed the film. It is my prerogative whom I should show or not show my film. Nobody can force me to show them the film.

"I would tell Congress people to come and watch the film in theatres before making such comments on a film which hasn't even released, or cleared by the censor board," Bhandarkar had told PTI.

The filmmaker said his movie, slated to release on July 28, does not talk about any individual and uses Emergency just as the backdrop.
