Writing is what i love: Twinkle Khanna
Actress-turned-author Twinkle Khanna, who’s most popular for her debut novel Mrs Funnybones, has come out with her third book titled Pyjamas Are Forgiving. At the book launch event, she’s dressed in a multi-coloured outfit, which says is to celebrate the decriminalisation of Section 377.
Introducing the book, Twinkle says, “The book is about a woman finding a place in the world, and finding redemption, but not finding a man. It’s set in a stringent ayurvedic retreat, and I find that premise very interesting. In a confined environment, your emotions always run high.”
“At this point in life, it is not enough that I am leading a self-sufficient life and that I have achieved equality in my life. I want to help other women achieve that. That’s redemption,” she says, addressing the theme of the book.
The author whose tongue-in-cheek humour has gotten her into trouble in the past adds, “I don’t think I have written anything that will offend anyone. It’s all in good jest, and I hope everyone enjoys their read.” Ask her if she hopes to see her books brought to life on the celluloid, and she says, “Writing is what I love to do. I think I have done that to the best of my ability. It’s not necessary for all books to be portrayed on the reel.”
The actress also talks about how much things have changed since she was a kid. “The freedom we enjoyed then was awesome. We could move around freely in our neighbourhood, cycle all over the place, and even travel by train. But today, our children are getting recognition at such an early age, and that’s dangerous. I fear their safety. It’s a conscious decision to keep my children away from the paparazzi.”
