Suspect if Nihalani is getting paid: Randeep calls CBFC promotional tool

The actor did not mince his words while addressing the glaring issue of CBFC censoring scenes.

Mumbai: Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), for some members of the Bollywood fraternity, is like that noisy, pesky neighbour they cannot wish away. First ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’, then ‘Indu Sarkar’, and now ‘Babumoshai Bandookbaaz’- CBFC has demanded numerous cuts, most of which involve physical intimacy.

The Pahlaj Nihalani led CBFC is a burning topic of discussion in Bollywood, second being nepotism. The latest to join the discussion is powerhouse of talent Randeep Hooda.

While addressing the issue of censorship, Randeep reportedly said, “(The CBFC) asking for cuts or censoring scenes makes no sense to me.”

As far as youngsters’ being exposed to sexuality is concerned, Randeep feels they have other means at their disposal to access things CBFC is trying to keep them away from.

He said, “Youngsters — the people you’re trying to prevent from watching (a film’s) content — are the ones who are mostly on the Internet. And whatever you’re censoring is actually generating more curiosity and, at the end of the day, everything is easily is available on the Internet, which remains uncensored.”

The ‘Sarabjit’ actor has even accused filmmakers of using censorship as a tool to promote their films. “Look how censorship is being used to create hype around a film, and it clearly has become a great promotional tool (in the hands of filmmakers), and I suspect if Mr Pahlaj Nihalani (CBFC Chief) is getting paid,” he added.

He went to cite an example that, the actor alleges, worked only because of its hyped fight with the Film Board. Randeep stated, “I recently watched a film that was very talked about [for] censorship; when I actually watched it, it was a bloody bore. A lot of people had gone to watch it only because it was hyped so much about scenes being censored.”

“I had read this film’s script as well — I figured out that the film reached multiplexes because it was sensationally promoted. It wasn’t a very interesting movie to watch in the first place, and it used censorship as a promotional thing,” concluded the actor.
