IOA Goodwill Ambassador, Salman Khan goofs up Dipa Karmakar's name

The Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar made history by becoming the first Indian to qualify for the vault finals.

Mumbai: Salman Khan faced a backlash when he was appointed as the Indian Olympic Association’s (IOA) goodwill ambassador for the Rio Olympics. Big names from the sports fraternity such as Milkha Singh and wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt opposed the decision.

The actor made headlines and the issue went on for many days, receiving a lot of negative reaction from the people. Now recently, the IOA Goodwill Ambassador, Salman Khan, sadly goofed up the Indian gymnast, Dipa Karmakar’s name.

At the trailer launch of ‘Freaky Ali’, which was held in Mumbai on Sunday, August 7, Salman Khan couldn’t get her name right.

It was the same evening that Dipa made history by becoming the first Indian to qualify for the individual vault finals (which will take place on August 14) in Olympics.

When asked about the athlete at the event, Salman was confused, “I thought... it was... was it Deepika? I thought she was going to win gold but she came eighth, no?"

Then a reporter sitting nearby at the event suggested ‘Dipti’ as the athlete’s name and then the actor said, “Oh yeah, Dipti,” said Salman.

However, it’s not Deepika, neither her name is Dipti, it’s Dipa Karmakar, Salman. Yes, the same athlete you cheered for few days ago on your official Twitter account.

Sadly, this wasn’t the only ‘Oops, what’s his name?’ moment for Salman at the event as the actor also forgot ‘Freaky Ali’s leading actor’s name. Yes, Salman introduced Nawazuddin Siddiqui as ‘Nawazuddin Shah’ at the film’s trailer launch.

Guess Salman Khan is just generally bad with names, just like he is with making remarks.
