Hard work and persistence are crucial for success in any field, says Manushi Chhillar
“Beauty for me is all about being comfortable in my own skin and feeling confident about who I am”, says Manushi Chhillar. The actor and former Miss World joins the ranks of Imaan Hammam, Adut Akech, Ana de Armas, Carolyn Murphy, Karlie Kloss, as beauty giant Estée Lauder’s global ambassador.
The actor who debuted with Akshay Kumar in Samrat Prithviraj, will soon be seen in the sequel of the blockbuster Bade Miyan Chotte Miyan 2.
The medical student who traded scrubs for life in the spotlight, spoke on beauty, making it into Bollywood and her wish to be directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and star opposite Ayushmann Khurrana.
Excerpts from an interview:
From Miss World to a beauty brand ambassador, how would you define beauty?
To me, beauty is more than skin deep. I believe that if you focus on inner happiness, you genuinely feel more beautiful on the outside.
It is about feeling content and at peace with yourself, which radiates a natural glow. My mother always tells me that true beauty comes from within, and I believe that to be true. External appearances may change, but inner beauty remains constant. When you prioritize self-care and self-love and focus on cultivating inner happiness while supporting others, it reflects on the outside.
In an industry which constantly emphasises on beauty, looks and with the trend of filters and fillers, how does one impart the message of self-confidence and positivity?
It’s important to remember that true beauty comes from within. As someone who has experienced the pressure to conform to certain beauty standards, I believe that it’s important to promote self-confidence and positivity by celebrating individuality and diversity. I try to do this by embracing my own unique features and encouraging others to do the same.
I have spoken in the past about the importance of self-care and self-love, and how taking care of your mental and emotional health is just as important as taking care of your physical appearance.
I also believe in promoting a more inclusive and diverse beauty industry, one that celebrates women of all shapes, sizes, and ethnicities. By doing so, we can help break down unrealistic beauty standards and promote a healthier and more positive attitude towards beauty.
For someone who was set to don scrubs, how did a doctor become an actor? How has it been so far?
For me it was completely circumstantial. The opportunities and lifestyle that I had before winning Miss World were completely different and with all the popularity and changes that happened after, going back wasn’t possible.
Having said that, I have really enjoyed the new phase and I love what I’m doing today because it has opened so many new doors in my life.
Everyone is looking forward to Bade Miya Chotte Miyan 2. What can you share with us?
I’m working on multiple films, including Tehran and Operation Valentine, both of which are very exciting. While I can’t reveal much about Bade Miya Chotte Miyan 2 at this time, I’m thrilled about the possibilities that lie ahead.
How easy has it been for you to breakthrough in the industry..., what is your biggest challenge.
Breaking through in the film industry was not an easy task, and it came with its own set of challenges, but I am grateful for the opportunities that have come my way. I firmly believe that hard work, determination, and persistence are crucial for success in any field, including the entertainment industry. That said, there have been challenges in learning to navigate the industry, including its many roles and responsibilities. Nonetheless, my passion for acting and a strong support system have helped me stay motivated and focused on achieving my goals.
