Pained to see Udta Punjab going through this, says Aamir Khan

The actor went further on and said that the voice of the film and filmmaker shouldn't be throttled.

Mumbai: The controversy over the much-talked of movie 'Udta Punjab' catapulted a notch higher on Wednesday (June, 8th) with Bollywood biggies throwing their weight behind the movie's producer Anurag Kashyap. Cracking down upon the prevailing slew of allegations against Kashyap, Aamir Khan came out in support at an ’24’ trailer launch today in Mumbai.

“It's very unfortunate. Pained that the film is going through this. According to my knowledge, the film is based on drug addiction and it delivers a social message. I don’t think there is anything that should be cut or audience should be kept away from seeing. It reflects badly on CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) and I hope the film gets justice at the tribunal.”

The actor went further on and said that the voice of the film and filmmaker shouldn’t be throttled. “They should have a free voice to speak. Every Indian should have the right to freedom of speech. I read in media that CBFC has changed and they would certify film. So I’m a bit surprised to cuts being given. I find it shocking to hear.”

For a while now, Shahid Kapoor-starrer 'Udta Punjab' has been making the headlines for one reason or another. In wake of the ongoing controversy surrounding Shahid Kapoor's starrer 'Udta Punjab, the Indian Film and Television Director’s Association along with ‘Udta Punjab’ team held a press conference on Wednesday where they addressed the media and put forth their perspective on the issue.

Apart from Aamir Khan, Bollywood celebrities like Mahesh Bhatt, Imtiaz Ali, Kabir Khan, Zoya Akhtar, Arjun Kapoor, Vikram Bhatt, Karan Johar and Farhan Akhtar among others have extended their support to 'Udta Punjab.'
