Did Aamir decline Dutt biopic because he's scared to play Ranbir's father?
Mumbai: Aamir Khan is known to be a perfectionist and always given his best to his roles.
There have also been rumours of him declining the protagonist’s role (Which eventually went to Sidharth) in ‘Rang De Basanti,’ opting for his friend’s role.
However, the superstar, who’s crossed 50, seems to be sceptical about playing father to the young brigade of Bollywood, including the likes of Ranveer Singh, Ranbir Kapoor and Varun Dhawan.
Though the actor played a senior citizen in his most recent blockbuster, ‘Dangal,’ he played father to two relatively known newcomers.
However, if the latest rumours are to be believed, Aamir Khan declined the very meaty role of Sunil Dutt, in Rajkumar Hirani’s highly hyped upcoming Sanjay Dutt biopic.
When Raju invited Aamir for a narration of the biopic, the actor was in for a shock when he was narrated Sunil’s part.
“I thought you were coming to narrate the role of Sanjay Dutt. I am not interested in playing the role of his father,” DNA quoted him to have said.
The role eventually went to Paresh Rawal, after being passed over by Akshaye Khanna. Incidentally, Ranbir will be seen playing Sanjay Dutt in the film.
What comes as a shocker, however, is a recent snippet from the hit chat show, Koffee With Karan.
When quizzed if Aamir would play father to someone like a Ranbir or a Ranveer, Aamir had been quick to answer in the affirmative, saying, “Yes, why not?”
If the casting coup had been pulled off, it would have been a glorious cinematic moment, since both the roles are equally influential and meaty, even on paper.
That forces one to ponder on why Aamir would decline the very meaty offer.
Is he scared to play the father to an established star, contradicting himself?
Aamir will next be seen in 'Secret Superstar,' and will soon start filming 'Thugs of Hindostan' alongside Amitabh Bachchan.
