Sanju, the biopic starring Ranbir Kapoor and directed by Raju Hirani was also offered to Akshaye Khanna. But the actor says the role slipped from his hands as he failed to qualify in the ‘look test’.
Currently busy promoting his much awaited, ready to release film, The Accidental Prime Minister, Akshaye recollects how he failed to grab the role.
“Raj Kumar Hirani and I had a couple of meetings. In spite of innumerable ‘look tests’, I was a misfit in that character. So I missed out on working with him in the biopic,” he says.
Incidentally, the role offered to him was that of Sanjay’s father, the late actor and politician Sunil Dutt.
“I feel sad at not being able to work in Sanju after being bestowed upon with a chance to be the part of the film. He (Raju Hirani) is such an incredible and brilliant story teller,” Akshaye adds.
However, Akshaye Khanna considers himself to be lucky to have worked with great people like Sridevi, Kader Khan and dad Vinod Khanna. “They were all great stars as well, and working with them was a great experience. I consider myself blessed for having got a chance to work with all of them,” he avers.
