Box Office: 102 Not Out shows tremendous growth over weekend, Omerta struggles

The two films that released this week faced contrasting fortunes at the box office over the weekend.

Mumbai: Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor starrer family-comedy drama‘102 Not Out’ received a good response from the audiences at the box office over its first weekend.

After taking an opening of Rs 3.52 crores, the film took a decent jump earning Rs 5.53 crores on Saturday and more than doubling Friday collections on Sunday by minting Rs 7.60 crores.

‘102 Not Out’ now stands at total collections of Rs 16.65 crores, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

After majority of the critics praised the film, it seems the audiences are also lapping up to the film.

On the other hand, the other release of the week, ‘Omerta’ starring Rajkummar Rao, didn’t have collections to boast of.

After opening around only Rs 50 lakhs on Friday, the film only marginally grew, by Rs 25 lakhs each on Saturday and Sunday, thus collecting only Rs 2.25 crores in the span of three days.

Rajkummar and Hansal Mehta, who both won won National Awards for ‘Shahid’, have not had the best continuation to their partnership with their subsequent ventures, ‘Citylights’, ‘Aligarh’ and now ‘Omerta.’

It seems unlikely that the terrorist drama could spring a comeback, while it’d be interesting to see how ‘102 Not Out’ fares during the weekdays.

If the venture manages to pass the Monday test, which has become extremely crucial for films nowadays, makers would surely rake in profits and it would then be ‘Badumbaaa’ time for the team.
