Akshay Kumar’s calendar quandary

Akshay Kumar has a whopping number of six releases slated for release, after switching around the dates to avoid clashing with other big films.

Akshay Kumar has a whopping number of six releases slated for release, after switching around the dates to avoid clashing with other big films.

His next release is going to be Sooryavanshi on March 27 – a date announced by Salman Khan for producer-director Rohit Shetty. This will be followed by Laxmmi Bomb opposite Salman Khan’s film Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai on May 22, an Eid release. Then comes Prithviraj on November 13 this year. Prithviraj is a period film, Akshay’s second after Kesari last year. The film has been directed by Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi and co-stars former Miss World Manushi Chhillar.

Our source explains: “The best part is the first four months of 2021 will also see three releases from Akshay, which sounds like a surfeit and not really a great idea as one expects some gap between these films. In fact, there is not much of a gap between the release of Bachchan Pandey on January 22, 2021, and Aanand L Rai’s Atrangi Re that releases on February 12, 2021, which also has Dhanush and Sara Ali Khan in it. Seven weeks later, we will see Bell Bottom, which is yet another period film releasing on April 2, 2021. Interestingly, his look in the film is similar to the one in Action Replayy, which was a fiction set by Vipul Shah years ago. But then, this actually means that there are three Akshay Kumar releases in ten weeks, and so if any film starts doing well, it will cannibalise another film of his.”

Meanwhile, spokespersons at Yash Raj Films say that that there is no plan as such to make Dhoom 4 at the moment, so perhaps that film can be scrapped from the Akshay Kumar film list till any official announcement is made.
