Shahid responds to accusation of promoting arranged marriage on Koffee With Karan

Shahid and Mira made their television debut with Karan Johar's infamous show Koffee with Karan'.

Mumbai: ‘Koffee With Karan’ may have rendered many kitty parties a blazing topic to gossip about but, it is for the first time that a celebrity couple has sparked a major controversy. The couple in question is Shahid Kapoor-Mira Rajput.

Mira, despite being a debutant, was extremely at ease in the presence of Karan Johar and did not appear star-struck even a tad bit. While discussing the transition of their relationship from meeting for the time to falling in love, the couple spoke about the positive effect of being brought together by families which, a section of social media users took an offence to.

Some accused Mira of lacking ambition, some went on to call Shahid an advocate of arranged marriage who was allegedly imposing the age-old idea on this progressive nation.

The ‘Haider’ star has now come to his own rescue and no, it is not defence mechanism that the star’s resorted to.

"A mainstream star having an arranged marriage is unique. It is not everyday that a Hindi film hero goes and marries someone no one even knows of. I am an actor. Most parts of my life are up for discussion, by default. It won't stop whether I like it or not. If people cross the line, we do get displeased. But the line itself is wide. We can't be touchy and say, bhai mere baare mein koi baat nahin karega," Shahid was reported as saying.

Opting for arranged marriage was a conscious decision between two consenting adults and we may want to think before pointing fingers at them or the ones who vouch for it.

Peace out!
