Karan Johar’s discovery not a star kid
Karan Johar has often been accused of nepotism, since he has launched many young actors who are the offspring of Bollywood folk. But, his casting for Dostana 2 tells a different tale.
Earlier, it was being speculated that Vindoo Dara Singh and Farah Naaz’s son Fateh might be launched in Dostana 2. Instead, Karan has chosen a non-star kid face. The actor cast in the role of the second guy in the film is television personality Laksh Lalwani, who has now dropped his surname and is just called Lakshya. The actor started off on MTV’s Roadies, moved on to shows like Hamari Adhuri Kahani, and later bagged the lead role in one of the most expensive TV shows on the small screen, Porus, where he essayed the eponymous role.
Lakshya is the third non-star kid cast by Karan in his movies, as opposed to the six other star kids he has launched.
Dostana 2 already stars Kartik Aaryan and Janhvi Kapoor in the lead, and the makers – Karan and director Collin D’Cunha — were in the process of looking for the third angle in the film’s triangle. “I woke up to several inquiries asking about his film industry connections! He is NOT from the business and went through a legit audition process! Am grateful to Shanoo Sharma for introducing LAKSHYA to @DharmaMovies,” tweeted Karan Johar. Shanoo is the casting head for Yash Raj Films. Interestingly, Karan was also trolled on Twitter by people who tried to find a resemblance between Lakshya’s face and the faces of other Bollywood stars, to guess whose’ son he may be.
