Kamal Haasan condemns Bigg Boss Tamil for mocking mentally challenged people

The show has been making headlines since its inception.

Mumbai: Controversies do not seem to leave the Tamil version of hit reality show Bigg Boss. Hosted by South superstar Kamal Haasan, the show has been making headlines for reasons more than one. First, the Tamilians were against the idea of this show as they feel it is demeaning to their culture and secondly, Haasan drawing comparison between Bigg Boss and Cricket, among other things, did not go down too well with a lot of people.

One of the contestants, actress Oviya, has reportedly tried to commit suicide on set. The actress, who seems to be romantically involved with one of her fellow contestants Aarav, which is violent in nature, has been trying to get herself evicted from the show. But since she is allegedly controversial and a source of entertainment for many, this did not happen. And, in an act of desperation, she jumped into the swimming pool and dipped her face in the water with her nostrils blocked. Her fellow contestants alerted the crew members on time and she was taken out of the pool.

The shocking incident happened on Friday. While one would not expect a television channel to air something as sensitive as this, Vijay TV went ahead and showed it to its audience, angering them and has also received backlash for the move.

If that wasn’t enough, mentally challenged people were also made fun of on the show and too that was aired. Kamal Haasan has not only condemned this insensitive act, but has also apologised for this mockery to the audience.

A lawyer named SS Balaji has filed a police complaint against Tamil Bigg Boss.

Oviya, who people speculate to be suffering from mentally issues, will be leaving the house with immediate effect owing to her illness.
