With Sanju's super success Ranbir Kapoor overshadows Salman Khan

The actor's doing a YRF film scheduled for release on Eid 2020.

It’s no secret that Id is Salman Khan’s time to rule the box office. Over the last 10 years, the actor has only conceded his coveted release date once — to Shah Rukh Khan in 2013 for Chennai Express, a film that went on to collect over Rs 200 crore.

But long-time rival Ranbir Kapoor looks like he’s in the mood to stir up some trouble. He’s called dibs on Id 2020 as the release date for his upcoming project with Yash Raj Films. Meanwhile, Salman has yet to announce any films slated for release on that date.

Salman has Bharat, his film with Ali Abbas Zafar, scheduled for Id 2019. And he’s rumoured to be in talks with Sanjay Leela Bhansali regarding a project titled Inshallah for Id 2020, but neither the filmmaker nor the actor has confirmed the news.

If their collaboration does materialise, a Salman-Ranbir clash at the box-office will surely be fun to watch!

Salman’s Eid releases over the years

2009
Wanted, directed by Prabhudheva and produced by Boney Kapoor, released. The film went on to be a hit, collecting Rs 61 crore at the domestic box office, and it revived Salman Khan’s dying career.

2010
Dabangg, produced by Salman’s brother Arbaaz Khan and directed by Anurag Kashyap’s brother Abhinav, released. The film, which stars Arbaaz and Sonakshi Sinha, apart from Salman, was a box office juggernaut, and collected Rs 141 crore at the domestic box office.

2011
The release of Bodyguard marked Salman’s hat-trick of box-office successes. Even though the Hindi remake of a South Indian film is not considered one of Salman’s best works, it still managed to collect Rs 148 crore at the domestic box office.

2012
Salman’s Ek Tha Tiger directed by Kabir Khan received a roaring response. With a collection of Rs 198 crore, it just fell short of entering the Rs 200 crore club.

2014
After a year’s break, Salman returned to conquer Id with Sajid Nadiadwala’s debut feature film as a director — Kick. The film, riding solely on Khan’s star-power, collected Rs 230 crore at the box office and gave Jacqueline Fernandez her first taste of being in the Rs 200 crore club.

2015
Bajrangi Bhaijaan featuring Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, broke into the Rs 300 crore club, grossing over Rs 320 crore.

2016
Salman recorded his most successful Id with the release of Sultan, a film on wrestling helmed by Ali Abbas Zafar. The film went on to collect over Rs 420 crore at the domestic box office.

2017
A fairly poor year for the actor, Salman’s Tubelight didn’t light up the box office and collected only about Rs 120 crore. He was even forced to return some of the money taken from distributors.

2018
The much-hyped Race 3, started off well, breaking several records before settling down to be an average grosser with a collection of about Rs 160 crore.
