Exclusive: Expect an action-packed Fukrey this time, says Ali Fazal about sequel
Ali Fazal of Fukrey fame , recently made a comeback to the theatre scene after nine long years. The versatile actor played one of the lead roles in the play Crab, which was staged in the city a few days back.
In a conversation with DC, Ali gets candid about his upcoming projects, on foraying into Hollywood and his affinity for Chennai. Speaking about the play, he says, “It is about four lead characters and their relationships with each other. We have also dealt with topics, which a couple doesn’t speak about in a relationship.”
Starting off with theatre, Ali feels it’s surreal to be with the same team after nine years. “I am revisiting this play after nine years. It’s overwhelming to see the entire cast come together. I have had a busy schedule for the past seven months and I feel glad to have set aside my time for this play,” he gushes.
Even though Ali is born in Lucknow, he has a deep connection with namma ooru. “I used to visit Auroville in Puducherry and on my way, I spend time in Chennai as well. But, it has been four years since I stepped in Chennai. I would say this city has been very kind to me. Ever since I’ve come, I have been eating — and it’s been dosas all the time! “ he laughs.
The Hindi film Fukrey, in which Ali played one of the leads, also marked Tamil actresses Priya Anand and Vishakha Singh’s entry in Bollywood. He adds, “After the first part, we have become great friends and we always find time for each other. For Fukrey 2, we hung out together for two months and it was mad and crazy. You can see an action-packed Fukrey this time.”
The Bobby Jasoos actor confessed that he doesn’t know about Tamil films as much as he aware of Hindi and English movies. “I am proud that my friends Tamannaah, Priya Anand and Vishakha Singh are doing really good work in Tamil. Of course, I would like to widen my market in Kollywood as well. I am open to all kinds of cinema, so I am really excited to do a Tamil film soon,” he asserts.
Ali is also doing a Hollywood project titled Victoria and Abdul, alongside legendary actress, Judy Dench. “I got selected for my part in August and I have completed the movie. It is a biopic and I play the role of Abdul Karim. For the first time, audiences would see a film of this kind. The movie will release in September.”
Elaborating about his Hindi film Tadka, which is directed by Prakash Raj, he says, “Majority of the portion is completed and we still have few portions left. The movie is an adaption of Malayalam film Salt N Pepper. “
Ali feels that getting Hollywood offers, comes with a great responsibility. “We are representing our country and it’s great to see Hollywood opening up to Indian talents as well. I think it’s time that an Indian actor would carry an entire film on his shoulder,” he concludes.
