Pyjama suits in Vogue
It’s hard to resist a trend that doesn’t just look good but is comfortable too — which is why many women have embraced the pyjama suit trend. Featured on runways everywhere for the last few seasons the pyjama suit is trending fast in fashion circles. Many celebs including Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and Kajol have been spotted in pyjama suits totally acing the look! Unexpectedly versatile, the pyjama suit can be worn to work or while lounging during the weekends — you have to just style it well.
“It was first introduced by Gucci,” says celebrity stylist Arch Mehta, adding, “It’s important to style it well, because the same print is all over you. So for accessories, you can choose a single colour from the print. For example, if the base colour of the outfit is blue and there are red patterns on it, you can pick either blue or red and use the same colour for everything. If you want to stand out then you can also go for neon colours.” Explaining what one can accessorise pyjama suits with, designer Althea Krishna says, “Keep it simple as the dress itself is quite loud. Don’t pair it with jewellery. While choosing a bag or shoes, pick a simple piece. The more colours you include, the more unfashionable it is.”
While many prefer to wear the printed pyjamas with same print jacket or top, one can also experiment with pairing the top/jacket with jeans or pairing the pyjama with a contrasting blouse/jacket. “When opting for a printed pyjamas suit for the day, pair them up with stilettos and a dark lipstick. If you prefer to wear separates, the pyjama wrap jacket works just as well with off-duty denim as it does with the matching trousers. The pyjamas can also be paired with a subtle contrasting blouse and accessories,” says stylist Meha Bhargava.
