Yuvan opens up about depression

Islam helped me, says the young composer

Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely demise has brought the subject of mental health issues into sharp focus.

At a recent interaction, music composer Yuvan Shankar Raja, son of maestro Ilayaraja, opened up on his struggle with depression and how he used to have suicidal thoughts. He was reacting to a query from a fan.

During the Q & A Session, one of the users asked what his worst fear was, and how he had overcome it. Yuvan replied that he used to have suicidal thoughts before converting to Islam, and added that the religion helped him overcome these negative ideas.

This revelation by Yuvan, one of the top-rated music composers of Tamil cinema, came as a shock to many of his fans.

The composer/producer also said that the Minnale song from the film May Maadham and Po Nee Po from 3 are his favourite numbers, composed by A.R. Rahman and Anirudh respectively. He also rendered a few lines from the songs.
