Omung Kumar’s Sarbjit, which released a fortnight ago, has successfully consolidated its position at the box office, besides garnering critical acclaim and a thumbs-up from industry insiders. Recently, the film was declared tax-free in Uttar Pradesh. And now, adding one more dimension is a special screening for the inmates of Tihar Jail in Delhi.

According to close sources, the inmates of Tihar will be watching a film after five years — the last film they had watched was in 2011. Standard rules within the jail entail that the prisoners are allowed to see a movie every five years. Vashu Bhagnani who has produced Sarbjit had written to the jail authorities requesting them to screen the film for the inmates. We hear that there will be four screenings in total over four days, at different time slots.

The biopic showcases the struggle of Sarbjit Singh, who was imprisoned in Pakistan and his family’s relentless fight to release him. When contacted producer Vashu Bhagnani confirmed the news. Interestingly, in the film, there is a scene where Sarabjit is requesting his sister Dalbir to reunite a Pakistani boy with his family, and the boy happens to be a Tihar inmate.
