Playback singers can never be replaced, says new singer Parineeti Chopra

While Priyanka Chopra continues to make headline news in Hollywood, cousin Parineeti Chopra is not one to be left behind. At the trailer launch of Meri Pyaari Bindu, in which Parineeti makes her debut as a singer, the actress was thrilled with the feedback she had received from none other than her elder sister, Priyanka. She said, “She (Priyanka) was one of the first few people to give me feedback. The moment I got the song, I sent it to her. She was really touched. My dad and her dad used to do shows together as the Chopra brothers and didi and I used to stand in front of our fathers and do shows with them.”

Parineeti says that singing at this juncture of her career is a huge achievement. “It was a very big thing for me to sing. She did it first, so I had to do well. It had to be a good song. For my family, it was like ‘chalo good, izzat bacha li’. They were very happy.” The actress admits, “I am still getting used to hearing my voice. I keep going back after small intervals to listen to it as it feels very weird to hear your own recorded voice.” She adds, “Playback singers can never be replaced because they are technically sound, experts, professionals and it’s their job. But if there are actors who want to and like to sing, I don’t think there should be a problem.” Made under the Yash Raj Films banner, Meri Pyaari Bindu is scheduled to release on May 12.
