I understand SRK better than Ranbir since he's an outsider like me: Imtiaz Ali

Mumbai: Imtiaz Ali is known for his pairing with Ranbir Kapoor, but that changed this year as the director cast Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’.

Speaking about SRK in an interview to Times Of India, Imtiaz mentioned, “I have known Shah Rukh for a long time. In fact, I understand him more than Ranbir because SRK, like me, is not from the film industry.”

Now that was unexpected knowing the chemistry Imtiaz and Ranbir shared in ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Tamasha’.

However, he further added, “He (Shah Rukh) is also from North India, and has done theatre in Delhi. So, like all other directors, I wanted to work with Shah Rukh at some point and I did it. Unfortunately, the film didn’t turn out as well as one would have liked it to.”

Talking about his chemistry with Ranbir, Imtiaz added, “I feel a certain sense of comfort with Ranbir. Even if I am unable to explain to him what I have in my mind, he understands most of it. For instance, in Sadda Haq (song in Rockstar), there is a part where only the guitar is playing and Jordan needs to scream. I couldn’t explain to Ranbir what exactly had to be done, and told him to act as if a current was passing through him. He didn’t know what I was talking about, nor did I! When we finally rolled the camera, he went berserk. He only opened his eyes when everyone clapped. It felt like he was awakened from a dream.”

Imtiaz is rumoured to be reuniting with his ‘Jab We Met’ actor Shahid Kapoor for his next project.
