Shah Rukh Khan's Raees release date pushed to January

The film which was earlier set to clash Salman's 'Sultan' will now clash with 'Baadshaho' and 'Kaabil'.

Mumbai: The potentially catastrophic clash between Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan this Eid has been finally averted. ‘Raees’ was initially set to lock horns at the box office with the YRF wrestling themed film ‘Sultan’. Shah Rukh or rather, his producer Ritesh Sidhwani have taken the call to postpone the release of the film by a few months.

In a joint statement, Shah Rukh, Farhan and Ritesh said, “It was not an easy decision to move the film. We understand that this film is highly anticipated. However, a movie of such magnitude requires the appropriate showcasing and therefore, we have decided to shift our release date to 26th January 2017."

It was said that at some point the film was eyeing a September 9 for release as an option, but with 'Baar Baar Dekho' and 'Dishoom' coming around the same time, they thought January was the best bet for them.

'Raees' will see Shah Rukh playing a gangster who ran the illicit liquor business in Gujarat. The film also stars Mahira Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

We wonder if Fan and Dilwale’s unsuccessful run at the box office, had a role to play in this shocking move?
