Outsiders like me have reached this position because of our hard work: Parineeti

The actress commented on nepotism and how different is is for outsiders and star kids in the industry.

Mumbai: Bollywood has often been accused of being unabashedly nepotistic and preferential when it comes to star-kids. Outside talents are often shown the door while star-kids are given multiple chances despite frequent failures or evident inadequacies.

Parineeti Chopra, who despite of being a relative outsider (she’s Priyanka Chopra’s cousin), could hold her own the industry fairly well, feels that kids from the industry have it easier because they understand the business better”.

“They understand the business more because they have either parents, brothers or sisters who are film-makers, actors, etc. They have been around scripts all their lives. Plus, they know how a movie set functions and, in fact, they get to visit many of them,” she told Hindustan Times.

While commenting on outsiders like herself, she confessed, “That’s the only advantage (they have) but the beauty of the industry is that talent and to some extent luck, are the only things that work. So, wherein it’s easy to get the first break, it’s the audiences liking that decides the rest. It’s a catch-22 situation.”

But when queried on the nepotism in the industry, she chose to be diplomatic by saying for every talented outsiders have made it big like Sushant Singh Rajput, Ranveer Singh and Sidharth Malhotra, there are equally talented star kids like Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.

"Actors like me, who are from outside, have reached a position due to our hard-work and because audiences have accepted us. So, ultimately somewhere the equation ends up getting equalised,” she adds.
