From understanding the pains talented singers face and struggling to taste success singer Kanika Kapoor has come a long way, having turned a music director and producer, launching her songs through her own company, KK Music Co and her YouTube channel.
Kanika Kapoor recently released her new song, Long Nights. She tells us it is just one among her series of songs yet to be launched and that she plans to compose soulful songs through this launch and release them every month through her own company and her YouTube channel. Excerpts from the interview:
What’s the latest in Kanika’s kitty?
I’ve been working very hard, shooting, singing and recording and some amazing work is waiting to come out soon. So it’s an exciting time for me. To be honest, I have finally, after many years in my career, that I have had the guts launch a song without the help of any other company but mine, KK Music Company and my channel. I was building the content through the last year and wanted to create lounge music, the kind of music I felt was missing in the Indian market. And that is how Long Nights came to be.
How was the song conceptualised?
I was with a friend on our way to Shirdi, and one of the songs she played in the car inspired me to do something on the same lines. It was this chilled-out music that people can listen to at home, while driving or while sitting with friends at a lounge. So I began creating a lounge series and this is the first one from that series, about which I’m very excited as it’s my own. The song features Amar Sandhu, with whom it was amazing to work.
Turning a producer in the music industry is a great achievement. Would you agree?
I plan to launch many songs from my company this year and have collaborated with some good quality upcoming artists for my YouTube channel. It is also what I want to do, collaborating with new talents, especially those who don’t have the money to launch themselves.
Launching newfound talent appears to be something very close to your heart. Please elaborate.
I believe it is high time we gave chance to fresh talents, be they actors or singers. Gone are those days when we promoted only actors and stars. It is only in India that only actors are promoted. In other countries all over the world, singers and other talents are also promoted. It’s unfair that only financially strong people are launched. We have to change this.
