No other actress can do justice to woman centric roles like Vidya Balan can. The actress will soon be seen in upcoming film, Begum Jaan. “I am in a very happy space as all my woman oriented films will be releasing one after the other,” says the actress.
Playing the title role of Begum Jaan, Vidya reveals, “I am happy that such roles come to me as I am attracted to issues connected to women. The film tells the story of survivors as they defy nations to save their homes. The story is set amidst the changing political scenario during the partition.”
Begum Jaan was shot in parts of Punjab, Delhi and Jharkhand. Describing the film, Vidya says, “It’s a Bhatt saab film, yeh ek kote ki madam ka kirdar hai. During partition times, she has to leave half of her courtesans in India while the rest are pushed towards Pakistan. But this madam refuses to budge.”
She adds, “My onscreen character raises a very important question — why are a woman’s actions controlled by her father, brother, husband or son? So she decides not to allow anyone to take away her space, be it in terms of property or her physical self. The script and the story are really very different and attractive. We are just finishing dubbing and post production work.”
