Bollywood love stories don't exist in real life: Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Mumbai: Acting comes naturally to Nawazuddin Siddiqui who shone even brighter in the last one year with Manto, Sacred Games and Thackeray. The actor whose latest film Photograph went to Berlin Film Festival and Sundance Film Festival reveals the most difficult part of shooting a film.

“The biggest challenge is to not act but be yourself on screen. Ritesh is very particular about that because once the camera rolls, you start pretending to act and it's not easy to not act when the cameras are rolling,” says Nawaz.

Filmmaker Ritesh Batra’s film Photograph, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Sanya Malhotra, traces the life of a struggling street photographer.

Talking about the film Photograph, Nawaz reveals that it is not a typical love story.

“It is a love story but not typical Bollywood kind of a love story. We are used to watching filmy love stories but in real life, there are so many kinds of love stories that are far more interesting. We are all stuck in cliché actually,” says the Manto actor and adds, “We feel there is a girl and a boy who fall in love exactly like how it is shown in Bollywood. But, Bollywood love stories don’t exist in real life. It’s all fake and we are used to that. In real life, love stories are so casual that you don’t even realise what’s happening. There is love in this story but we have not emphasised much on that.”

Nawaz who has earlier worked with Ritesh Batra for The Lunchbox can’t stop gushing about the filmmaker.

He says, “Ritesh is a director who is popular worldwide.Ritesh’s film The Lunchbox has travelled so much that it also the most watched film in the West.”

“This is the kind of film that makes people across the globe acknowledge that we also make some good films.,” he concludes.
